How to remove cash from years of accumulated dividends from actual current cash in portfolio

I am a new user and need help with the cash aspect of my portfolio. When I added the actual cash sitting in each portfolio, I realise that the cash I freshly added was added to a previous balance consisting of years of accumulated dividends resulting in a crazy hi number. I clicked the edit icon but it only allows me to alter the freshly added cash amount and not remove the existing cash " balance" which the system had pre-filled from years of “accumulated” dividends. How can I remove the prefilled numbers? I have already un-clicked the auto-sync for dividends ( but only after I had already entered my holdings in portfolio). (2) When I enter “purchases” for SSB, T Bills and stocks, do I have to also go to the cash transactions each time to add cash ( to square the purchases)? Thank you so much!

Hi there,

Actually, you can simply turn off the cash balance feature if you prefer not to use it. You can turn it off here under “Portfolio Cash Preferences” → https://stocks.cafe/user/toupdateportfoliopreferences

If you want to use it but wants to remove all the added dividends, I believe (sorry sometimes I forget things) is via sync dividends here → https://stocks.cafe/user/tosynccashbalancedividend

And of course also unclicked auto sync which you did.

Cheers,
Evan

I will try this thank you for the speedy response!

Sorry Evan but the page

doesn’t seem to exist. Also, If I were to purchase stocks/ T bills do I have to separately add in the correct amount of cash to my cash portion of portfolio to “square” the purchase so my cash balance doesnt inaccurately turn negative? Or this can be ignored once the T bill is “issued” and stocks “enter” my account i.e. the equity portion of my portfolio will reflect ( and balance) the drawdown in cash such that my overall portfolio value remains accurate? tq!

Which page does not exists?

Yes, whenever you enter a BUY transactions (and assuming you check the “cash” checkbox), then cash balance will be deducted. But instead of entering just that, we recommend entering the amount you deposited into the brokerage (assuming you are using the one portfolio = one brokerage approach)

Clyfoong - i think we can manually add a cash transaction to tally the balance to funds in portfolio. i will likely to this going forward too.

Evan does portfolio value include cash value? assuming we are using this function.

Yes, NetWorth can be included if you use the feature.

  1. You can control if it include or not on this page → https://stocks.cafe/user/toupdateportfoliopreferences

  2. You can hover over the networth on portfolio page to see the components.

Thank you!
