I am trying to figure out my P&L for a position which I have traded in and out of over last 4-5 years. There’s dividend accumulation during this period too. I wanted to figure out how is the P&L for open and closed position is calculated.
As illustration my Open position shows P/L -19% or -5.6% after accounting for dividend. This make sense in isolation… but I wanted to confirm that this open position dividend will EXCLUDE those position already closed? Does it adjust cost base on average price as of each sale date?
A follow up question - is it possible to see the P&L and Div of the open position in actual value (the dollar amount) instead of %. So I can compute the net position for each stock since the closed position clearly show the amount gain/lost for those closed position. TQ
Average Cost Price - This is computed based on weighted average → https://stockscafe.academy/knowledge-base/how-to-calculate-average-share-price/
Note: whenever a sell transaction happens, the cost price is not affected unless all shares are sold. Cost price changes only happens during Buy transactions.
Yes, closed position dividends will account for those dividends.
