XIRR figure on daily email portfolio performance gone awry

Hi Evan,

Since 05/01/21 the XIRR figure in the daily email sent to me has been reflecting NA on somedays and other days figures like 5000% to 20 000%. Pls look into that. Thanks.

Elmer

Hi Elmer,

I took a look at it.

  1. Seems like, it is the YTD XIRR that you are talking about.

  2. The significant increase is due to the short trading period for this year and seems like your gain for this year have been quite a bit so far.

  3. You can also see the computations here -> https://stocks.cafe/user/debug
and here specifically for XIRR -> https://stocks.cafe/user/viewportfolioxirrdetails?label_id=-1

Cheers,
Evan

Thanks Evan.

However I am not sure if the case is how you say it is. Because on 05/01/21 my XIRR (YTD ) was still reflecting 21.63%. I did input an buy transaction on the 05/01 or 06/01 for a purchase on 04/01. On 06/01 when the nett change of my portfolio dropped -1.1 % suddenly the xirr ( ytd ) showed a NA. And it continued to show NA until 12/01/21. On 13/01/21 when the nett change for the portfolio was another -1.1 % drop, suddenly the xirr ( ytd ) came back but showed the figure to be 220 706% which seems most odd to me. Does this still look like a situation you have mentioned may be the cause? or could it be a bug cos I dont understand why it could say NA for a week before coming back with such a huge % number.

In any case pls share with me the xirr ( ytd ) formula so i can understand how its calculated better.
Also have you had a chance to look into some simple illustrations explaining the difference between all the terms generated in the daily computations? Examples showing what is XIRR , XIRR ( YTD ), Time Weighted ( YTD ) and Time Weighted ( ALL)

Thanks and Regards
Elmer

Hi Elmer,

Sure. You can find the XIRR computation numbers here -> https://stocks.cafe/user/viewportfolioxirrdetails?label_id=-1

(This is the debug homepage -> https://stocks.cafe/user/debug)

I will also PM you with the numbers and computation on Google Spreadsheets which returns the same results.

Cheers,
Evan

Thanks for looking into it.

Elmer
